Iris Allison

Iris Allison is a Graphic Design graduate at The School of Visual Arts.

   I was born and raised in Midwood Brooklyn. As a recent graduate from the School of Visual Arts, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design concentrating in Motion and Post-Production. While I can tell you all the reasons why I think I am excellent at what I do and why I think I would be a good fit for your company, let's be honest, everyone says the same thing. As a member of a very tight-knit Jewish Syrian community, everyone tends to do the same type of work professionally, but that is not something that particularly stands out to me. It was important to me that I branch out and do something that was new to me. When everyone knows where you are and what you are doing 24 hours a day, it is not as easy as you might think to branch out of the community that you grew up in. My decision to pursue this career was something I knew I wanted to do, and I do not regret it in the slightest. Community is very important as it keeps you grounded and gives you a feeling of belonging. I come from a very charitable community that holds many events for the sick and needy. I have donated my time and various mixed media pieces to help raise money and awareness to various causes. I've attended a seasonal program called Kids of Courage as a social media counselor which helps kids in need. I decided to switch High Schools with a more mixed cultural background which helped me learn new cultures and viewpoints on the world. I enrolled myself into the AP art department and focused on painting and drawing but something didn't feel right. It was not until I got to college that helped me realize film is what I wanted to pursue. My nature is very analytical when it comes to film/ television shows, and even just watching videos. There is just something I love about watching the cut, the transitions, the sounds, and how it all comes together in the end. The reason I believe that I can succeed in this field and hopefully make a name for myself is because I believe that I could utilize my analytical abilities to my advantage and I feel like film is my best bet. I have my own understanding of myself and realization that this is something I am truly passionate about.
